Promoting young talents
Supporting young scientists plays an important role at our faculty. Doctoral students are intensively supervised here, work closely with their supervisors and can thus realize very individual research projects. All doctoral students at our faculty are automatically part of the campus-wide RUB Research School. Here they find an extensive range of resources for an outstanding research project: consultations, further education and qualification measures, programs for non-material and financial support of individual projects as well as opportunities for internationalizing their own research.
The central graduate school facilitates interdisciplinary doctoral studies and an exchange on scientific methods, strategies and research organization that goes beyond one's own horizons. Research-related skills as well as general skills such as scientific presentation and writing or professional communication are trained in various workshops. Networking events invite students to engage in dialogue with doctoral students from other disciplines. Varied expert lectures provide in-depth insights into current topics. The Research School's funding lines for international mobility offer the opportunity to gain international experience and to realize research projects abroad. In return, international researchers can also be invited to RUB.
PhD students and postdocs are equipped at the Research School with important competencies that enable them to pave their own career paths and take on responsibility in research, industry or society. Through the Research Academy Ruhr as a cross-university platform, the Research School is networked with the institutions for the promotion of young scientists at the Technical University of Dortmund (TU Do) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). Every two years, high achieving young researchers who have already completed their doctorates have the opportunity to become members of the Global Young Faculty. Here they meet with other committed young scientists from the Metropole Ruhr to work together on interdisciplinary topics and to network.
The faculty's support for young researchers also does not end after the doctoral procedures: Junior professorships on highly topical disciplines are regularly established to give talented young scientists room for their research and to support them in their scientific careers. In this context, above-average funding not only enables them to act as independently as possible and to conduct research on their own, but also, for example, to participate in important congresses and conferences.
