A warm welcome! We are a large mathematics faculty. More than 150 people research, teach, learn and work here every day in the name of mathematics.

We are characterized by a wide range of disciplines and expertise in teaching and research. Five research areas cover essential areas of theoretical mathematics, applied mathematics and didactics.

We are strong in research, versatile and future-oriented. We conduct internationally oriented and recognized cutting-edge research in numerous individual as well as interfaculty, interdisciplinary and interuniversity collaborative research projects, collaborative research centers and a cluster of excellence. Our portfolio is constantly being expanded, and we particularly support young scientists.

Dedicated professors train the mathematicians of tomorrow in five study programs. The teaching of solid basic mathematical knowledge, creative problem-solving skills and the learning of the correct use of the mathematical toolbox in current fields of application through modern and lively teaching is close to our hearts.

About half of our teaching is service teaching  - we are the central point of contact for organizing and conducting mathematical courses for other faculties at Ruhr University Bochum.
