Research
Strong in research, versatile and future-oriented: With currently 23 professorships, the faculty is one of the strongest research faculties in mathematics in Germany. Our research is intensively devoted to a very broad spectrum of mathematical subfields from pure mathematics, applied mathematics and didactics.
In numerous individual research projects, interfaculty, interdisciplinary and interuniversity collaborative research projects, collaborative research centers and our cluster of excellence, internationally oriented and recognized cutting-edge research is conducted. The transfer of our research achievements to other disciplines, to industry and to society is important to us and is actively practiced.
Likewise, the support of young scientists is of great importance. Through membership in the RUB Research School, doctoral students are optimally supported on their career path and encouraged to gain international and interdisciplinary experience. Furthermore, the Faculty of Mathematics regularly advertises junior professorships.

Collaborative research
Many research projects of the Faculty of Mathematics transcend disciplinary, university and geographical boundaries. Together with our collaborative partners, we realize interdisciplinary projects and bundle competencies in cutting-edge research.
Individual research
The Faculty of Mathematics is distinguished by significant, diverse, and externally funded individual research projects covering a broad range of mathematical disciplines.
Floer Centre of Geometry
At the Floer Centre of Geometry spaces are investigated for their shape and symmetries. The FCG bundles different branches of Geometry to a research group and represents an international platform for the scientific exchange.
