JUNIOR PROFESSOR (WITHOUT TENURE TRACK) (M/F/D) FOR ALGEBRAIC GEOMETRY (SALARY SCALE W1)

The Faculty of Mathematics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Junior Professor (without tenure track) (m/f/d) for Algebraic Geometry (Salary Scale W 1) to start on as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will represent the subject of Algebraic Geometry in research and teaching. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in an active area of Algebraic Geometry. Preference will be given to applicants working in one or more of the following fields: Complex Algebraic Geometry, Holomorphic Symplectic Geometry, Calabi-Yau geometry, Kähler Geometry, Arithmetic Geometry, Tropical Geometry, Hodge Theory. We are looking for a junior scientist with an internationally visible research profile who complements the existing research expertise and fundings at the Faculty of Mathematics. Teaching duties will include service teaching for science and engineering students, apart from mathematics courses at undergraduate and graduate level.

The appointment is initially limited to three years and may be extended for another three years upon successful evaluation. A PhD thesis of outstanding quality and a proven track record in teaching are expected, as well as willingness to contribute to administrative tasks. Candidates have to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36ff Hochschulgesetz NRW.

We furthermore expect:

• strong commitment to teaching
• willingness to participate in interdisciplinary research
• capacity to secure research funding through competitive grant schemes and willingness to participate in existing cooperations (f.i. CRC/TRR 191 “Symplectic Structures in Geometry, Algebra and Dynamics”).
