Ms. Brandenburg works in the field of combinatorics, in particular in combinatorial and discrete geometry. One focus of her research is on polytopal structures and their combinatorial and metric properties, such as the calculation of volumes. She combines approaches from discrete, algebraic and tropical geometry.
Her work is applied in optimization and machine learning. She investigates how tropical geometry can be used as a bridge between the theory of piecewise linear functions and the mathematical structures of neural networks.
